Self-Awareness
It is imperative that a mental health counselor is self-aware at all times while working in the mental health field. Counselors that are Self Aware helps the therapeutic relationship by the counselor having an understanding how their personal worldview and biases can negatively influence how they present themselves in practice and can harm the therapeutic relationship. A self-aware counselor understands when to divulge personal experiences when it lends effectively to the therapeutic relationship

Authenticity in Counseling
When reflecting on my counseling journey and how I developed a process to become more self aware. I relied on specific explorative tools that helped me to explore my own potential biases, is journaling and mindfulness techniques.

Ethical and Professional Standards
When I encounter ideologies or worldviews that differ from my own, I make a conscious effort to understand them through research and self-reflection. I take time to evaluate how these differences may affect my thoughts, feelings, and clinical approach. If I recognize that my reactions could interfere with providing effective care, I seek consultation with peers and supervisors to process these concerns. This allows me to address any potential countertransference and ensure that I continue to work with clients in an ethical, respectful, and professionally grounded manner
